A weak front will approach the state Friday resulting in a better chance for showers and a few thunderstorms. The highest chances will be across central and south Florida, where deeper moisture and instability will reside by afternoon. However, a brief shower or downpour is possible just about anywhere at some point during the afternoon or evening hours.

[promote-threats]A few strong, maybe severe, thunderstorms are also possible in parts of the panhandle and across the eastern half of central and south Florida. Damaging wind will be the primary hazard with any stronger cells, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, especially in the panhandle closer to the front.

In most areas, rainfall will accumulate to a half inch or less due to the relatively fast movement of the storms. However, locally higher amounts of rain will be possible from some of the stronger cells where brief urbanized flooding may occur. The thunderstorms should end by midnight Friday night and most areas of the state, outside of parts of south Florida, will be dry the rest of the weekend.
