The updated outlook calls or 19-25 named storms (39 mph or greater), of which 7-11 will become hurricanes (winds 74 mph or greater), including 3-6 major hurricanes with winds 111 mph or greater.
In addition to the number of tropical systems, forecasters at NOAA also expect "stronger and longer-lived storms" than average, attributing warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures, reduced wind shear, and weaker tropical Atlantic trade winds to the "extremely active" forecast.
